Nestlé takes drastic steps to reduce its water use on a worldwide scale

VEVEY - Nestlé is taking drastic steps to reduce its water use on a worldwide scale. The company has introduced various water saving initiatives for its factories around the world over the past decade.

In its factory on the Azores Nestlé formerly used seawater to cool its machines during the production of milk powder. A new cooling system in the dairy factory has enabled the company to cool the machines without the aid of seawater, leading to a more sustainable work method. Nestlé has also transformed a dairy factory in Modesto, California, into a production facility that distills water from milk and then recycles it. In a coffee factory in Vietnam Nestlé is taking steps in re-using wastewater for production, creating a sustainable cycle. Nestlé locations in India and Panama have taken similar steps to reduce their water usage.
