Mocca d’Or gets started in new markets

AMSTERDAM - Since 2010 Wouter Jansen van Velsen is ‘temporary owner’ - as he calls it himself - of coffee roasting company Mocca d’Or. ‘I have the use of this company and it is my job to strengthen the base, in order to lead this company that was founded in 1930 to its 100th year celebration’ explains Jansen van Velsen his ambition.

A lot has happened since he started. After rebranding Mocca d’Or the team introduced Earth Coffee, an organic concept with a sustainability message, and Santas Koffie was taken over – a brand focused on the professional segment. This was all necessary as Mocca d’Or has growth ambitions. ‘The coming two to three years the growth in hospitality will continue,’ Jansen van Velsen explains. ‘But we need to look for new markets to continue this growth. This is our goal, we want to double our growth and we cannot realize this by staying in our current market segments, the catering and specialty stores. Therefor, we will most likely start up export!

The biggest changes with the past are in the area of transparency/ food safety and for the coffee segment for sure also in the area of ‘experience’. ‘Just like in the beer category you see within the coffee segment small coffee roasting companies coming up. This is great for the sector, but on the long run a consolidation will take place. The fight for the customer will become bigger and bigger’. Jansen van Velsen has a clear vision on successful entrepreneurship. ‘Keep it simple, and in international perspective, make use of the positive forces in the chain. Don’t try to do everything yourself, I think that is a big pitfall’. Do you want to know more about Jansen van Velsens’ vision on successful entrepreneurship?
