Amazon to open a giant ROBOT-run supermarket staffed by just three humans

SEATTLE - Seattle based Amazon is contemplating a two-storey automated grocery store where a staff of robots who operate on the upper floor, grabs and bags items for shoppers below, and requires as little as three humans.

One again, web giant Amazon is looking to utilise technology to minimise labour. This week past we brought you news that Amazon won a patent for its package packer robots for its warehouses, bringing light to a futuristic world where humans co-exist with robots. It’s about to get a little freaky.

The ground level thinking of Amazon’s futuristic prototype supermarket will house more robots than human staff, which will be a supermarket sized version of its Amazon Go checkout free convenience stores, with the layout spanning anywhere between 10,000 and 40,000 square feet.

It will stock around 4,000 items that consumers typically like to touch, including fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat and cheeses, as well as grab and go items like beer and wine. Amazon may also be looking to break into the pharmaceuticals sector, with some stores planned to stock this category.

The Amazon 'Robotic' supermarkt will be run lean when it comes to human staff, with a maximum of 10 workers planned per store during any given shift, and able to run with as little as three at any given time.
